Growing Herbs in Pots

Herbs need optimum wet soil, not too wet or dry.To make a container for a herb, add 2 parts of potting soil and 1 part sand. And from the bottom about 1inch higher, you need to put gravel to ensure drainage. The soil in the pots can also be made more nutrient for the herb, by adding 1tea spoon of lime per 5-inch pot.
Water is essential for potted herbs too. Misting the herbs is required to keep humidity. Container herbs require more water to supplement less minerals in the soil, but care should be taken not to drench the roots.
Portability is one of the main advantages of the container herbs. You can put them in one place in the morning and another place in the afternoons to provide natural sunlight. Perennial herbs (a herb that lasts more than 2 or 3 seasons) survive better if place outside in summers.
Herbs should be generally provided relatively warm environment and should be not left in snow to avoid damage to foliage. Mint, Tarragon and Chives are exceptions though. The start fresh growth after they taste first frost. Life is Diverse, isn’t it ?Some herbs actually do better in containers. Mint is a container herb. It may take over the entire garden, if planted outside.
Conclusion is that, growing herbs in indoors in containers or pots is not that difficult. They can be moved anywhere and harvested anytime for a seasoning or flavoring while cooking.

Other things one must ensure is that they should be repotted every year and certain herbs needs to be moved outdoors while others are to brought in. You also need to harvest from time to time for even more fresh growth.
